H2O +  CO2 -------Light Energy-----------> C6H12O6 + 02

Water + Carbon Dioxide ----------Light Energy--------> Glucose + Oxygen

Water + carbon dioxide ----> glucose + oxygen

                               OR

6H2O + 6CO2 ----> 6C-12H-6O + 6O2

Look at the reactants (left side), and then look at the products (right side). You'll see that in the reactants, there are a total of 12 hydrogen atoms and a total of 18 oxygen atoms. There are also 6 carbon atoms.

As you can see, the glucose has 6 carbon atoms (that's all of the carbon atoms), 12 hydrogen atoms (that's all of the hydrogen atoms), and  it also uses 6 oxygen atoms. So, then, that's the glucose! All that's left are oxygen atoms!

As you can see, there's also some oxygen in the list of products. Well, since 6 were used for the glucose, there's only 12 left. We have 6 oxygen atoms, which is 12 oxygen atoms total.

There you go!

make sure not to mix up subscripts and coefficents. Each glucose molocule contains 6 atoms of carbon C6 - 12 atoms of hydrogen H12   and 6 atoms of oxygen O6

Glucose = C6H12O6

Water contains 2 atoms of hydrogen and 1 atom of oxygen

Water = H2O

Oxygen in pure form is always in 2 atom pairs

Oxygen = O2

Carbon Dioxide has 1 atom of carbon and 2 molocules of oxygen

CO2

In photosynthesis you have

Water + Oxygen --------> Glucose + Oxygen

H2O + CO2 ----------> C6H12O6 + O2

Coefficents must go on the front of each molocule to balance the equation. for every 6 molocules of water and 6 molocules of carbon dioxide you get 1 molocule of glucose and 6 molocules of oxygen.  The balanced equation looks like this

6H2O + 6CO2 ----------> C6H12O6 + 6O2
