The sympathetic nervous system generally controls filtration rate. When blood pressure or volume drops, the sympathetic nervous system causes the afferent arterioles in the kidneys to constrict or become smaller.  When the afferent arterioles constrict, glomerular filtration pressure decreases and forms glomerular filtrate.  This will ultimately lead to less urine.
