When a red flower is crossed with a red flower you always get a re flower. When a yellow flower is crossed with a yellow flower you sometimes get all yellow flowers or sometimes get a yellow and red flower. Please eplain why you get a yellow and red flower.

It sounds like in your example some of the yellow flowers carry a recessive copy of the allele for the red color. Take the following case. Lets assume that small f is the allele for red flow  color and big F is the for yellow flower color

If you cross these flower types you can get several different variations

ff crossed with ff will always give you red flowers.  This is why crossing a red flower with another red flower in this example will always produced a red flower.

since there is no big F you will get red flowers 100% of the time.

on the other hand if you cross a red flower ff with a yellow flower FF you get

Since the big F is dominant all of these flowers will be yellow

In another example, if you cross a ff and a Ff you would get

This means you would get 75% red flowers and 25% yellow flowers even though you are crossing a yellow flower with a red flower.

Because of Dominant and recessive traits. The Red is dominant so even though a yellow shows on a punnett square, the dominant red takes over, unless there is a homozygous yellow.

Because both  yellow flower are heterozygous , they have red(r) and recessive.

By the genotypes provided, red would prove to be homozygous dominant.  This would give the alleles RR which if crossed with another red flower, also RR, 100% of the offspring would be RR.  Yellow would have to be heterozygous dominant, by convention.  The flower's genotype would be Rr, which if crossed, would give you 25% red flowers, 50% yellow, and assumingly, 25% homozygous recessive which could produce a flower with a different phenotype (white, green. . .)   This is known as Incomplete Dominance, which is distinguished by the heterozygous phenotype's expression being different than the homozygous dominant flower.

If the red traits are recessive, then the yellow is dominant, the red traits would be ff and the dominant could be Ff and or FF. when you cross them, you could get almost any color of flower, but usually red or yellow.
