Similarities - meiosis and mitosis
1. Mitosis and meiosis are both types of cell division
2. Both pass genetic information from one generation of cells to the next
3. Both use similar phases of cell division i.e. prophase, metaphase, anaphase, telophase.
4. Both result in the production of daughter cells.
Differences - meiosis and mitosis
1. Mitosis results in the creation of 2 daughter cells. Meiosis results in 4 daughter cells.
2. Daughter cells in mitosis are genetically identical barring errors. Daughter cells in meiosis are genetically different.
3. Daughter cells in mitosis are diploid. Daughter cells in meiosis are haploid.
4. Meiosis results in the creation of specialized cells called gametes, Mitosis results in duplication of the parent cell.
5. Mitosis consists of one complete division cycle. Meiosis consists of two complete division cycles.
