Both inhabit areas that are fairly dry. These are prairies and some dry mountains. Rattlesnakes eat small rodents, lizards. They are eaten by large birds. The smaller animals eat snails, worms and other like them. Other things found here are very small trees, cactus, much sand and rocks. Very little water. Porcupines eat  fruits and other things. They are eaten by very large carnivores such as mountain lions and lynx.
