chloroplast a plastid containing chlorophyll
chlorophyll the green coloring matter of leaves and plants, essential to the production of carbohydrates by photosynthesis, and occurring in a bluish-black form,  (chlorophyll a),  and a dark-green form, (chlorophyll b)
