The central dogma refers to the link between DNA, RNA and Protein

DNA ------> RNA ------> Protein

DNA is transcribed to RNA durring transcription. RNA is then used to create polypeptides through translation which eventually are folded into functioning proteins.

DNA is passed from on generation of organism to the next, thus the coding information is conserved over time.
